Looking back on 2021

December is the month for taking stock. Ruisseau Jackson (RJANP) has planned its activities on an annual basis, and here is a summary of its 2021 adventures.

Because of the pandemic and related sanitary measures, our community and environmental awareness activities for 2021 were quite limited and we didn’t hold any major fundraisers over the past 12 months. The organization did, however, receive donations from its partners, including the Lake Echo and Lake Daïnava associations, along with some private donations, all of which helped us carry out our agenda.

And yet, we are very proud of our achievements for 2021. We worked on many interesting projects in connection with our nature conservation mission. In the past few months, we initiated or finalized the following activities:

  • Activation of a research and writing project on the social and geographical history of the watershed in conjunction with the Morin Heights Historical Association.
  • Preliminary meetings on the creation of a detailed interactive map of Ruisseau Jackson and its wetlands (between “Lake” Seale—a vast wetland—and Lake Echo). This will allow us to identify the various types of wetlands in the area and the stream’s forms and structures: the stream bed and the stream itself.
  • Water sampling with Abrinord and local partners, including the municipalities of Morin-Heights and Mille-Isles.
  • Major clean-up of the trails between Hope Bridge and Chemin Salzbourg (October 2021) in collaboration with the Municipality of Morin-Heights.
  • Installation of 14 nesting boxes for threatened bird species, in conjunction with Développement ornithologique Argenteuil and the Municipality of Morin-Heights.

What’s in store for 2022? We will be preparing our strategic plan in the coming weeks, but we can already state that 2022 will find us on a bold course filled with hope. Stay tuned and keep following us!

Have a lovely new year full of wonderful discoveries!
